Rough Water Swim
The Rough Water Swim is a one-mile swim around the Santa Cruz Wharf. It starts on the east side of the wharf and finishes on Cowell Beach.
The City of Santa Cruz will not allow any organized event on city beaches for the remainder of the year, so the Rough Water Swim will not be happening in 2021.
We plan on hosting it again in 2022, so stay tuned...
The Cruz Cruise Open Water Swim is a two-mile swim held in the cove in front of Cowell Beach.
The City of Santa Cruz will not allow any organized event on city beaches for the remainder of the year, so the Cruz Cruise will not be happening in 2021.
The 2-Mile Cruz Cruise will be a USMS National Championship in 2022, however, so we look forward to hosting that!
Many of our open water swimmers gather at Cowell Beach in Santa Cruz to swim together on Sundays.
These swims are, of course, subject to weather and sea conditions.
If you're interested in joining us for these swims, ask Coach Joel when the next one is scheduled or drop us a line here.
Cowell Beach, Santa Cruz
There is limited metered parking at Cowell Beach, on the north side of the wharf. You can also pay to park on the wharf itself, or at the Boardwalk parking down the street. During the fall, winter, and spring you can park for free in the residential areas above the wharf; however, in the summer season a residential parking permit is required for these neighborhoods.
The video below appeared on Santa Cruz's cable channel, on the program called "Detours." It features our own Joel Wilson as well as a lot of ocean swimmers tackling the two Santa Cruz summer races in the year 2000.
